PHILANTHROPY
Tri
Sigma's philanthropy is Sigma Serves Children. All the funds
that are raised are donated to the Robbie Page Memorial Fund.
This fund was established in 1951 after our second National
President's son, Robbie Page, succumbed to polio, at Boston's
Children's Hospital. The money raised for the Robbie Page
fund supports research on childhood diseases, the maintenance
of play therapy rooms, and also funds graduate study in the
field of recreational therapy. Currently, Tri Sigma has play
therapy rooms at the University of North Carolina Memorial
Hospital at Chapel Hill, and at the Children's Medical Center
in Dallas, Texas.
Beginning in 1994, Tri Sigma has raised money for the Robbie
Page Memorial fund by holding a Teeter - Totter - A -Thon.
The annual event, held in the Krentzman Quad, consists of
48 hours of non- stop teetering, rain or shine, and has gained
the Epsilon Chi chapter at Northeastern University national
recognition.
The 10th annual Teeter - Totter - A - Thon held in 2003 raised
nearly nine thousand dollars for our philanthropy. For two
chilly & rainy days, sisters laughed, sang out of tune
to the music and were found sleeping between shifts- all in
the name of a good cause.
Since 2005, the sisters of Epsilon Chi have also hosted "Kicks for Kids", a kickball tournament held in the spring to raise money for local children's hospitals. Members of the Greek Community, as well as others in the Northeastern Community, form teams to play in this annual event. |
